How bone-headed was it of the Phillies' Charlie Manuel to sit out Cliff Lee in Gm 4?

♦ Dumb enough to cost them the World Series Title! That's how dumb it was.
♦ Any other Charlie haters want to jump on this bandwagon?
♦ Sheer stupidity = you don't give the Yankees an opportunity to go up 3 - 1 in the Series and live to brag about it. You go home losers.
♣ There's a good chance Charlie was sittin' on his proverbial laurels with that dumb decision. Now he's hurting and his team suffers for it.
♣♣ Sure Lee will be pitching a Phillies' win for Gm. 5, but the Yanks will still take home the Series trophy (guaranteed!) due to Charlie's bone-headed ineptitude!

Cliff Lee never pitched on short rest so who is to say Clff Lee would have pitched the way he did in game one & I don't think he would have in my opinion but looks like Philly doesn't repeat & that's fine by me cause & I am a Yankees fan

I agree with you! (although, i respect Charlie). Philly was in a "must-win" scenario last night. You HAVE to use him(Lee)-even if for only 5 innings. Yea, bad call there!

He's very stupid he was just being very stubborn and didn't want to make the same coaching move that Girardi used which is basically putting ur pitcher in a 3 man rotation which has been working so far for us :) He wanted to show that hes a better coach and probably didn't want to copy the tactics that Girardi uses. LETS GO YANKEES!!

PS: Phillies most likely have Game 5 tonight, Cliff Lee is a crazy good pitcher....

Blanton pitched a good game, give him that. Charlie boy felt more confident using Lee on the usual 4 days rest. We'll see if that works out.

It did not cost them the series title...once again, people don't listen. As a former pitcher, I totally understand why he didn't. #1 - he has NEVER thrown on 3 days rest in his entire career...so why experiment in Game 4 of the series. #2 - Joe Blanton was going to pitch either Game 4 or 5...so even if Lee had pitched and won last night, the Yankees still got Blanton tonight and could have gone home up 3-2. Pedro was never throwing on 3 days rest anyway...so Manuel did the right thing!

Cliff Lee has never started on short rest, so if he had pitched Game 4 and lost, you'd still be saying it was a bonehead move. Besides, Brad Lidge lost the game, not Joe Blanton; Blanton pitched on par to Sabathia.

And A.J. Burnett is 4-0, 2.33 ERA whenever he pitches on short rest. That's pretty darn good.
