How big could the discounts be on Jeeps?

I've recently been looking at getting a used Jeep. I need a car and I'm looking to spend as little as reasonably possible for a car that can get me up to and around at college.

I've heard a lot about possible discounts at dealerships because of Chrysler having to close so many dealerships. I wouldn't mind spending slightly more if I could get a new Jeep from a dealership if I were getting some major discounts.

How big could these discounts really be though? Would it be worth waiting a little while and visiting a dealership to see how low they're willing to go?
 
Your best bet is to visit the dealers, one that is closing would be better. All their inventory should be marked down under MSRP, but you should act fast if you want to pick your own color, options/etc.

However, i would wait a little. Don't buy it on your first visit. Pay a visit and entice them, and then come back later and offer about 30% less of what they're asking. they're desperate to get rid of these cars or risk paying for the cars themselves, so don't be afraid or feel guilty to low-ball. Sure its taking advantage of them, but most car salesmen take advantage of unsuspecting folks all the time.
 
None of this applies to used car.

New Chrysler/Jeeps are being discounted drastically. This month the incentives can get as high as $6000 factory cash discount off the price of a new vehicle. It's a good time to be buying a new car if you have the money.

Don't wait, the dealers that are closing won't be in business next month.
 
Your not going to see any significant discount on a used Jeep except for what you can get lucky enough to find a cheap one in good shape. A new one at best you can get for invoice, low interest, & rebates. A dealer cannot sell a Jeep for any thing less than what he owns it for. Later on you may see bigger rebates on 09 left over models. There may still be some 08's still around, so call around. G'luck!
