I recently did 4 months in jail in and was most of the time at the tent city jail run by Sheriff Joe Apario. I was on probation and got done for DUI so in loads of places I probably wouldn't have had to do jail time at all.
I had heard about the jail but it was worse than I thought it would be. I was treated like a major criminal eventhough I was only there for DUI and had a hard time. All the stuff is true - living in tents out in the sun, had to wear pink underwear and black and white stripe uniforms, you have no privacy at all and the food is crap and you and your stuff gets searched all the time. If you say anything back to a guard or do anything against all the rules you get punished for it and end up on the chain gang. Sometimes I was there I was thinking this is like 1910 instead of 2010.
