I've been using Visual C++ 2008 for a while now, and while it's great for writing all kinds of applications, when I want to distribute my app the end user needs dot NET. Most Windows apps don't require the dot NET library to run so what library/API do they use for drawing their UI?
I've done a few searches and the terms I hear most are "Win32 API" and "MFC". If I wanted to create GUI apps with these libraries what IDE do I need? Visual C++ 2008 doesn't facilitate the creation of user interfaces using anything other than Windows dot Forms (dot NET). So will I need to write the code for the UI elements myself, rather than using a designer?
(If you're wondering why I keep writing "dot NET", it's because Yahoo Answers won't let me write it properly, some kind of badly made censoring system I'm guessing)
