how are starches used by your cells?

Starch is not used by cells in animals directly. in the mouth starch is broken down into maltose by the enzyme salivary amylase and further broken down in the stomach and small intestines into monosaccharides such as glucose. so cells use the glucose, etc. and not the starch directly. when cells respire the glucose is used to produced energy.
