How are schools of fish able to change direction so rapidly and all at the same time? ?

they often school because they are more prone to being eaten and the look bigger like that
safety in numbers
and they change direction so quickly because if they fall behind they would be less intimidating and more likely to be eaten
it in their jeans i guess.
 
There are a few lead fish, which are really just any fish at the front or side, which change direction first. this is redgistered so quickly by the other fish that it seems like telepathy!
