How approximate are the EFC to the amount of Financial aid you actually receive?

After completing my FAFSA , my EFC came out to be 2759. I wanted to know how accurate are these numbers to what the schools offer. Should I expect to pay a lot more than that (as in 1 or 2 thousand more)?
