How and when should I introduce my kitten outdoors?

I will be purchasing a rescue kitten soon and I would like it to hopefully be an indoor/outdoor cat, staying in at night and out during the day. I live on 3 acres in a rural area so its not a very busy area. How long should the cat be kept inside before I introduce it to the outdoors? Should i out it in a harness and then take it out and play for a couple of minutes and slowly introduce him like this or is there better ways to do it? The kitten will be 2-3months old when i get him. And how do I litter train him?

not trying to be mean but outdoor cats, die.
i have had five cats, i live in a pretty rural area and they all have been eaten by another larger animal. so i just dont have any cats outside. its like asking for disaster.
