How about a compromise on the Birthright Citizenship idea? Before you gasp or

assume anything please read? Some conservatives want to end birthright citizenship because they are concerned about the concept of so called "anchor babies". We can argue about whether or not this is a legitimate concern, maybe it is, maybe it is not. But this is their concern.

Opponents of this above position are concerned that this would endanger rights and perhaps create a second class of people who have no nation that they can call home.

Here is a possible compromise. A child born to an illegal immigrant would be granted automatic U.S. Citizenship but not until age 18 and this citizenship would not in any way imply citizenship is granted to either parent.

This would solve BOTH concerns.

What are your thoughts on this?

Someone from Mexico can give birth to a Mexican when in Mexico.

It should still be a Mexican if they cross an imaginary line in the sand. They aren't without a country, the parents decide to leave it willingly knowing their children will become US citizens. It would have an effect on the numbers of illegals if that practice is discontinued.
