I watched this recently. It's a very stylish, visually attractive and totally crazy horror with a good slice of black comedy thrown in. The teens-in-the-middle-of-nowhere scenario is far from original but it's tried and tested and if you can add any ingredients to make it any different from the run of the mill slasher films then you might be onto a winner. Director Rob Zombie manages that.

This film has some great imagery, snappy dialogue and interesting characters. Captain Spaulding is something of an enigma but his true character isn't really seen until the sequel. Baby Firefly is a fascinating persona of childish mischief coupled with sadism and malevolence. She's like a cross between Aileen Wuornos and Nellie Olsen as well as great eye candy. The soundtrack is great too.

Anyone else a fan of this film?
 
House of 1000 Corpses is his best film, Devil's Rejects was just terrible and I didn't like anything about it, and his 'remake' of Halloween was awful. I'll wait until I've seen it but I don't think Halloween II will be any different.
 
Same here. Me and the missus were huge fans of 1000 Corpses, and were really disappointed with just how downright nasty the sequel was. I salute the director's change of style and throwing of a curve ball to fans of the original, but ultimately I just found a lot of it to be a mite questionable.
