Hi there. We live near the beach. We have no yard but large flower boxes that are tiered on either side of our stoop. We enjoy sitting on the stoop at night with neighbors, but lately EVERY night we see at LEAST two of these horrific little bastards. I am irrationally terrified of them because the are fast and have lots o' legs. I know they eat other bugs. I. Don't. Care. I'm sick of someone gesturing wildly at our stairs and everyone jumping up and patting their clothes and running away until some brave soul stomps the offender. Unfortunately, it often gets away. Our flower boxes are lined with a trex-like composite. (I forget the name). Inside, they are wood. Here are my questions:

1) we had slugs last year in our flower boxes. Tons. This year, we bought insect killer and put it in the boxes. So no slugs. Why then aren't the house centipedes dying, too??

2) If I am seeing so many of these bugs right outside our front door, should I assume they are inside the house as well? I haven't seen any. I am SO afraid of this answer.

3) How can I get rid of the suckers? I can't dry out the soil in the boxes because the flowers will die. We already covered the soil with insecticide stuff.

Our stoop was once a gathering place. It has become a zone of terror and horror. Please, help me return my stoop to the community-friendly socializing zone it once was. And, you know, to get rid of the heebie-jeebie leggy monsters. :) Thanks!
