Hotsyncing Problems when Dell Laptop Docked

My T3 hotsyncs fine when I connect my cradle throught the USB port on the back of my laptop. When I link my cradle through my Dell's Docking Station USB, the hotsync results in the following error:

USB Device Not Recognized
One fo the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows has not recognized it. For assistance in correcting this problem, click this message.

Of course, clicking the message provides no help. The problem is the same whether I use my regular cradle, or a hotsync cable from Brando.

Has anyone else had or heard of this type of problem?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

I'd guess at two possibilities. One is that Windows is incorrectly seeing the USB port in the docking station as a new device. You may have to go to the Add Hardware in Control Panel and see if you can add the USB port from the docking station there.

The other possibility, and one I think is most likely, is that there's a hardware problem with the laptop correctly connecting to the docking station. The USB port isn't recognized because it's not being connected to the laptop. In this case, you'd have to exchange the docking station with Dell.

My toshiba docking station had the same issue. The fix was to reintall the palm desktop software with the device connected to the docking station. This worked in my case and whenever I'm on the road ala w/o station - no issues. Try the aformentioned fix and then see if it will work for you.

However, there was another threads sometime back where the USB port on the Docking station was under powered and wouldn't work without a powered hub.....so you may search for that however as memory serves that was an IBM piece of s*** and I'm not certain how your Dell will react. ;)

I can't remember the exact details but it has to do with the enhanced USB port! Go to "My computer", right click and get to properties. Get to the Device Manager and go down the menu to USB. Disable the enhanced USB ... and you should be able to Hotsync. It worked on my Latitude D400!
