I recently reformatted my HDD and reinstalled hotsync, and now i can't hotsync. when i press the hotsync button, it shows up on my pda, but is unable to connect to the computer. I've tried soft reset, reinstall hotsync manager, and nothing works. Any help appreciated...... Without hard resetting.

If you've reformatted then you should have a more advanced understanding so I'll skip the small details:

Open device manager - attempt hot sync - note if the device manager blips in the USB controls and shows an attempted connection by the Palm. If it does - delete that USB device then reboot and retry a hot sync.

If it doesn't - unistall Palm Desktop - hack the registry and remove all hot sync and palm references then reboot the pc. Then reinstall Palm Desktop and attempt again.

Thanks, moose i'll try that

EDIT:doesn't show up in usb controllers, so going to have to reinstall palm desktop, and screw up my 6 day uptime :( im going to try just changing to a diff usb port that isn't on a hub, cause im short on ports.

EDIT2: i've now tried changing usb ports, and it shows up in ctrl manager now, uninstalled it, rebooted and still doesnt work

Are you connecting to a Laptop (Dell specifically) that's using a port replicator? Be certain to make the first connection on a direct USB and then subsequent connections should be ok through the hub.

Try this regardless - reinstall the palm software and see if it connects.

Also - run a search for PalmUSBD.* in Windows Explorer. You should get a result of two or three files

Palmusbd.inf - this should be dated no later than 6/2004
Palmusbd.sys - this should be the same date as above file.

If they are different dates - delete both of them and then unistall the Palm software and then reinstall and check the dates.

Let me know the dates and the full paths - but the INF file should be in a C:\Program files\Palm (or possible Palm One) subdirectory

The SYS file should be in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder - but you could also have a copy in a similar folder as above.

If it's only located in the Palm folder - copy it to the System32 and try it.

I'm going to be out the rest of the evening, I'll try back late tonight or early in the AM to see what success you've had.

nope, not using a lappy

and what date are you talking about, created, modified or what

if you're talking about modified, theyre both modified today for some reason, and it wasn't in the drivers folder so i chucked it in

EDIT:i reinstalled after that and it works now!!!! Thanks mooseman

Create date - but anyway seems your up and running. Glad I can help and I will work for Beer......it's an old trademark in my signature that I used to use back here 3 years ago.
