Hotsync to T3 Using DateBk5

This request for help is aimed at people using a T3 and DateBk5.

My problem is: Calendar events that are deleted on the handheld (T3) are not deleted from the Palm Desktop during the hotsync operation when the Calendar conduit is set to "Synchronize the files". Only when the Calendar conduit is set to "Handheld overwrites desktop" will the event be deleted from the Palm Desktop.

The developer of DateBook blames Palm for having a bad conduit, and Palm just brushes me off.

Does any one else who uses DateBk5 on their T3 experience this problem?

Thanks very much for any help or insights you can contribute. :)

When trying Datebk5 I read quite a bit on Pimlico's site about the conduit reinstalling deleted datebook items and the best reference I got was "dbscan" which has been uploaded on this forum before and is available from Pimlico as freeware.

The problem is manageable by (according to Pimlico and as you point out above) using dbscan to check for errant records, setting Palm Desktop to HANDHELD OVERWRITES to clear the PC items, and proceeding from that point on "normally."

APPARENTLY the problem does not re-occur - perhaps it has with you and there are plenty of Datebk5 users on here who might have more "tweak" information for you.

Ironically, people with the DESKTOP version of AGENDUS can not delete repeating to-do's created on the desktop from the handheld and this bug remains in 8.05. That would lend to the argument that it is the conduit, not the application.

Reply to Palm TealLover,

Thanks for the reply. I just went back to the Pimlico site and could not find any discussion of conduit reinstallation of deleted DateBook events. I have used the dbscan program, however, it did not help with the problem.

This type of problem is only manageable in a very technical sense. It is not a reasonable expectation that non-technical users in business (or in personal use) would be switching conduit functions on a regular basis. The benefits of using a Palm should be convenience and reliability, along with transparency of technical details once they have set-up.

Thanks again.

Hmm, mine synchs OK...but only if you remove the deleted files using dbScan just prior to hotsynch...otherwise the T3's deleted files will NOT delete from the Desktop. Conduit settings won't matter if you don't remove the deleted files using dbScan. At least that's my experience.

Thanks, wghandorf . . . .

when you remove deleted calendar events from the T3 using dbscan how does the hotsynch operation then delete the event from the Palm Desktop? Or does it remove the event from the desktop?

Anyway, this is strange behavior for the Palm -- don't you think?

Thanks.

Yes very strange. Datebk5's message board had 100's of posts about the conduit issue and the conflict with classic versus the new PIM's. For me, it doesn't seem to matter if I use set conduit to synch or to "Handheld Overwrights". Either way, the deleted events will also be deleted from the Desktop as you would want them to be...but if you just delete them from the T3 AND not also remove using dbScan, then the deleted events will not delete fron your Desktop....then the NEXT time you hotsynch, those events that you had previously deleted from your T3 will reappear!!!....yes, very strange.
