 When I start the hotsync app from my palm via cable to PC I get this on my PC
"MY hand held does not have a user account associated with it"

:o [I have attached a Jpg showing what pops up on my desktop when I start hotsync (via cable).]

so... then I have to go to the bottom of that window and select an EXISTING user (my one and only user name EVER) and then it only PARTIALLY hotsyncs. then I get an error on my handheld too

* :o * ((Note ; most of my apps ARE NOT syncing and I have alot of data! I am using a t5 as stated and I am syncing with outlook 2002 via hotsync app vers. 6.0.1 . although i am not using my palm desktop that is version 4.1.4 and instapp.exe 6.0.1 and alarm app is 4.1.0)) my quick installs are NOT loading into my Palm.. they are just sitting and sitting in my quick install waiting each sync to go into my t5. ALSO - I am using windows XP with the latest updates.))

{ :confused: {NOTE: my usb cable DOES work, the hotsync app does start on both my pc and palm it's just the user name issue! my palm t5 has lost it's user name. IT is still stored correctly on my pc }}

and then my PALM T|5 says ::::::

For whatever reason the T5 has or seems to have been hard reset since the reason there is no association to a username.

Here's what I'd recommend:

On the PC rename the backup folder that is associated with "Kimberly". Typically, this will be located at C:\program files\palm one\USER\backup where USER is the defaulted name for Kimberly. Rename this backup to backupold.

Then hard reset the T5 (and leave the SD Card out of it) - and then attempt a hot sync. When prompted as per your attached picture - choose the Kimberly username and allow the hot sync to complete.

If successful - then you can start restoring the files from the backupold folder. Before you proceed though - compare the backup folder (which will automatically be created during the first attempted hot sync) and the backupold folder. Don't add anything to the Palm install that already exists in the "backup" folder.

I'd also recommend that before you attempt to hot sync - locate the "install" folder which is nested near the backup folder that you renamed - and delete all of the programs in that folder so as to allow the hot sync to complete without too much demand being placed on it.

Hi and thanks for replying so fast!

Would a hard reset leave all my stuff on my palm? I thought that was kind of when you erase all. I'm not sure.

anyway .. I am going to locate file - change it to backupold and remove my SD card and hard reset the palm ... remembering to remove the install files FIRST.

now... when I get to that screen (as shown in my post) I will   TYPE IN MY user name as CREATE A NEW USER? and use my old KIMBERLY .. right?

:) Kim

Nope - you'll select the username that's at the bottom of the warning - assuming that was your old user name - which it should be, KIMBERLY but don't retype it just select it. (it shouldn't let you retype it anyway).

My guess regarding how your username got "deselected" - is that the T5 Saved Preferences file got changed somehow - either by a program or deleted accidentally in some fashion. This will cause the T5 to forget who the user is and it will prevent a hotsync from occurring because the desktop looks for a username each time and if it sees that the device doesn't have one - it will hiccup. I've seen it happen once or twice in my 10 years of using Palm OS devices - could have been a static discharge that hit the device. Most likely in the winter time that we are in so don't worry about it.

All should be good afterwards.
