Hotsync Manager started twice

I've stumbled across a curious situation in my startup folder. There are two shortcuts to the Hotsync Manager. One is called HotSync Manager and the other is called HOTSYNCSHORTCUTNAME. Looking at the file properties, both point to the same thing: C:\Palm\Hotsync.exe -login. I'm thinking it could be residue resulting from having, over time, installed three different versions of the Palm desktop: Palm IIIxe, iQue 3600, and finally Palm TX. I'm having no hotsync problems, but it just doesn't seem healthy to me.

Can anyone explain why I have the hotsync manager being started twice? Can you confirm that I can safely eliminate one of them?
 
Rather then rely upon someone else stating that it's safe.....I'd suggest you move both of these items out of your start up folder and place them on your desktop (easy to find). Reboot your computer and attempt a hot sync. Shouldn't happen because the hot sync manager will not be in the system tray.

Place the file "hot sync manager" back into the startup folder and reboot and then see if you can hot sync. I'd bet you can.

If you can then you should be able to delete the HOTSYNCSHORTCUTNAME which I believe is a pre-Windows XP reference as you suggest.

If you can't - then put it back into the startup folder and reboot and it all is well then go have a beer and forget the whole process.

But since these are in the startup folder and not necessarily in the Win.ini file then these are not loaded as part of the OS just as a convenience to prevent you from having to manually launch hot sync on the PC prior to the hitting it on the handheld.

Of course the shorter version of this is, just remove the HOTSYNCSHORTCUTNAME from the startup to the desktop and reboot and attempt a hot sync.

And the real short version - just delete HOTSYNCSHORTCUTNAME (I'd bet a case of beer) that it's just a dupe leftover from multiple devices as you stated.
 
Thanks Moose Man. I'm just going to delete one of them. (Lord knows that anything that doesn't need to run at startup is a good thing.) Apparently it's smart enough to see that there is already an active process running and not start a second one. I figured I'd check here in case someone knew of a reason why it had to be started twice.
 
I may not understand your question, but if you can see two shortcuts to the HotSync Manager in your startup folder, just right-click on one of them and select Delete.
