Hot sync problem

This is a new problem which I have not had before. When hot syncing I get a fatal alert: Preferences.c,Line:271,Pref DB Open Error. I had to hard reset, and it syncs fine. It will sync several times with no problems, and then out of the blue the alert again. Any ideas? Thanks R. B.

Did you have to hard reset, as in you lost all your data, or soft reset, as in your data remained intact?

The easiest way to understand this problem is to see a copy of your hotsync log. Go to the hotsync icon in your system tray. Click and then go to "View Log"" Highlight all the text in the log and cit CTRL-C. Post a reply here and paste the log text using CTRL-V.

Posting the log would be helpful.

You can also try and run a repair on the affected DB (Database) that's causing the problem.

Go into the Palm Desktop application then choose: Tools, Options, Tools (tab) and then hit the button "check now" with the tag line "check and repair any corrupted records".

This may be part of the problem - but as Jim notes - the exact spot that it occurs in the log will tell a story that we can then better provide an answer. ;)

Thanks for the help. I think I found the problem. The last program I downloaded was cool keyboard. This is when the problem started, but not right away. I did have to do a hard reset , then reload. I deleted the keyboard program, and no more problems. No corrupted files were found on the desktop. Thanks for that tip, I forgot about it. Ref the error, Hot sync started normal, then on the palm the error message would show up, and everything would freeze. I would have to tap the reset on the palm screen, aHotSync operation started 04/01/05 22:08:16

HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
HotSync operation complete 04/01/05 22:08:36nd At this point the hot sync was at a freeze, and tapping reset stopped it, and this is what the log stated. Note versa mail is set to do nothing as I do not use it. Thanks again. R. B.

The 6410 error is what I needed to see. This is always a Windows generated error and always indicates that a third party program with a conduit is misbehaving and causing the sync to timeout. Docs to Go is famous for generating this error. If you got to the Palm Support web site and type in "6410" you'll find several articles about this problem and how to fix it.
