Hot Sync Crashes at very end (after completion)

Afternoon All,

Whenever I hot sync my NEW Tungsten T3, after the hot sync is complete, it crashes / reset's.

Weird thing is:

1) It makes it through the syncronization process (as my log shows):
OK System
HotSync operation complete 6/20/2005 2:25:40 PM

....but the screen dialoug still stays up on my PC until I remove the handheld from the cradle??

2) I use CrashPro and it doesn't catch it. It says "reset" and I am forced to stick a pin in the hole on the back (as it simple get's locked up with the word "RESET")??

Any idea's on what this could be / mean? Happens on pretty much every sync.

Gulp .......Help!!

Hey,
This has happened to me when I was running my T3. I never really figured it out, but I uninstalled the very last application I had loaded, deleted my backup file on my card, then rehotsync, then rebackup, and then rehotsync again.
My guess would be either a new third party application or a corrupt file in the backup file....if it is the later, then a new backup file needs to be established and following the suggestion above will do that.
Hope it helps.....
Caro

Well darn ........

The backup wasn't it.
I have a feeling that it has something to do with the expansion card (maybe)?

I get this message from Doc's to Go on my first sync .....

Documents To Go Message(s)
2005 Account Balances
--The destination card for this document wasn't inserted during the synchronization or it has been formatted. Insert the card or move the document to a different card and synchronize. For more information see the Help file--
Accountant

June 2005- Pension & Bonus Amt
--The destination card for this document wasn't inserted during the synchronization or it has been formatted. Insert the card or move the document to a different card and synchronize. For more information see the Help file--
OK Documents To Go
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
HotSync operation complete 6/20/2005 4:32:45 PM

The next sync will be fine (as far as Doc's to Go is concerned.

I still get the reset at the end though?

Problem is ...... I have just gone through reworking my whole gosh darn PDA and don't feel like reformatting the card just yet.

Any other suggestions???

Cheers,

Syno

Have you downloaded the Doc to Go update from the Palm website? There were known bugs with the version that came in ROM on the T3.

Yeah..... actually, I updated to version 7 (just recently). Any other idea's idea's? Actually, I think the two different resets I'm getting are totally unrelated though. So suggestions on the D2G problem would be great too.

Cheers,

Syno

I have another thought....Recently I had system crashes when the expansion card was in. For the heck of it, I took it out to test for crashes and it didn't crash. The only solution I was able to come up with was reformatting the expansion card and this solved the problem. I know this may be a pain, but it might be the only way to fix this....

Carol might be on to something. Since you have Docs to Go files on your SD card, DTG looks at the file when it syncs to find the link back to the file on your PC. If it can't read the card, you would get an error messge like you did because DTG can't find the file that links to the original. Are you able to read files from your SD in a card reader? If so, transfer them off to a backup file and then reformat the card in your T3. Recreate one document from your PC to sync with DTG and hotsync. If this works with no errors, recreate all the DTG links by dragging your documents to the DTG program on your PC.

O.K. I'm at the point where I have reformatted my card on the handheld. Can I also remove the files from Doc's to Go on the PC and then delete the card (within Doc's to Go preferences on the PC side .............so that it says NEXT AVAILABLE). Then, recreate a Document in Doc's to Go and sync?

Cheers,

Syno

So far so good ..........

Reformatted the card and the first sync with Doc's to Go worked fine. I'll let you know if subsequent sync's go bad??? But for now......... all looks to be O.K.

Wierd.........expansion cards seem to give me the hardest time. I try to keep as few applications as I can on them these days!!

Obviously you figured out the question about reformatting and reloading a DTG document on your own. Progress is being made. :)

The card may not have been the problem. DTG has a nasty habit of loosing links back to documents on your PC. Nevertheless, the easiest way to fix the problem is to reformat and reload as you have done. SD cards today are simply consumer grade products and they are being made to compete on price alone. As such, you are more likely to experience card failures than in the past. It's always a good idea to have an extra card and back up the contents of the card in use so you have a portable backup available.

One step forward, one step back .........

How do I make a backup of the card (on a "stand-by" card)? Wouldn't I have to copy it to RAM and then back to the new "stand-by" card .......... if on the road or something like that (away from the PC).

Syno,
Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my reply. You obviously can't make a copy of your SD card just from your Palm. I meant that you get a card reader for your PC. Copy the card to a temporary file in the PC and then copy the files to your second SD card. I do this once a week or before I know I'm going to be away from computer for more than a day or so. I saw a really cool card reader at Best Buy the other day that has dual slots and can copy from one SD card to another without the need of a computer. It wasn't cheap at about $50 but it sure would be nice to take on a long trip if I don't have a computer with me so I can make backups of the card.

I had the same problem, I just want to add that I have CrashPro installed with logging enabled, and it told me in the crash log that DXTG was the culprit. I haven't tried the solutions above because this seems to come and go in my T5 - somehow DXTG rights itself (although about once a week DXTG gets into a state where it crashes upon opening any Wordview document, and won't work again until I delete the DXTG database and resync.

Jim, hopefully not too far off topic, but is this a fairly standard method of duplicating the contents of one SD card to another (say for example when moving to a larger SD card, but retaining all the contents of the smaller)...

Cheers,

BTW, after a 2month spell in the wilderness with a non-functioning communicator i shall be resurecting my t3 this evening...
