Hot sensation on the back of the neck?

I have ALWAYS wondered what causes this and I'm sure many of you have experienced this before. This isn't a serious pressing question but I have been trying to google this to no avail.
Sometimes if I turn my neck too fast I will get a sharp pain in the back of my neck, a sort of burning/tingling/hot sensation that will go away in a few seconds. It's usually if I move my neck too fast or too sharply but sometimes I move it normally and it happens. Does anyone know what this is? Some of my family and friends have had this happen before, is this ok/normal? I'd say it maybe happens 2-3 times a year, I'm assuming it's normal but you never know.

It's probably just a normal part of your anatomy but do tell your doctor, it could increase your risk for cervical spine arthritis. You might want to look up the medical term "crepitus", it describes those popping/snapping sounds and pain in and around joints.
