Hot rumor: The Nokia N8 with Symbian^3

dr tran, i imagine there are stereo speakers, its just that the speaker phone out put is mono. as for the battery, its more about how they use it than the size, perhaps... ;)

Does look very promising, but I've never doubted Nokia's ability to make a nice looking handset. The Xenon is what people have been asking for a long time....let's hope the software will live up to the design of the hardware.

Viipottaja, I have all these spare 1500 batteries. Sad to see them about to become useless.

If they do 900/1700/2100 and 850/1900/2100 I'll be happy. Two versions cover all bases.

Btw what is that i keep seeing all over people keep talking about joikuspot? I checked out the website and all it is is software for tethering with an s60 device? Can't you do that with just your phone and the pc suite?

You are correct, it could very well be some russian dude with a lot of free time to make this stuff up. So these info we're reading are regarded as "rumor" until official released by Nokia.

If leaked by Nokia internally, I don't think anybody is going to step up and say "Who stole my N8 spec sheet?" :hehehe:

Coverflow and pinch zooming.

Also don't even try to get your hopes up about symbian^3 on the N97-not happening and I doubt the hardware would even work well with the OS. You struggle with 1 page of widgets as is

Beatmag, I would not worry - as far as I can tell from his post, Michael-Dallas is talking about a direction over the coming years of moving to multi-core processors. Everything else is sketchy and likely not relevant for Vasco/Sushi anyway.

T-Mobile got it because they don't have a problem with unlocked devices on their network. They also offer plans with no contract and a la carte data. To launch it on AT&T bands unlocked would piss off AT&T which Nokia wants to have a good relationship with in order to try to succeed in the US market. AT&T wants locked devices and ways to gouge consumers with artificial premiums via mandatory data plans and locked devices.

If anything given our philosophy and T-mobile's openness we should be supporting T-mobile.

Ceebz why'd you buy an E72?

Also idk I guess the 12mp camera is great for bragging rights but unless the sensor is large and the phone stays chunky I hope it doesn't suck. Satio and pixon were so-so, I'm sure a proper 8mp or even 5mp camera would serve better.

i would hope so!!!
either way, apple will reach multicore first. apple has never been shy to use the latest and greatest. their A8 within the 3GS showed this.

I still dont understand why selecting a platform takes 3-4 years. that is a dreadful amount of time. I always thought it as, picking a baseband, selecting a cpu, stick it together and away you go. unless of course you use a really tightly coupled embedded chip such as OMAP3, which to a certain extent includes chips that help the baseband processing. we are still talking 3-4 years.......... seriously i dont believe that. snapdragon came out only recently (2008 Q4 according to wikipedia). and look at HTC, happily using it already. reference architectures do exists. look at the OMAP3 reference architecture, its basically there to allow manufactures to speed up products. you literally should be able to just use the reference architecture, and slap it into a device.

(n8) now was that an announcement date that has slipped or availability date?

So just another s60 all touch device.. what's the point? Except the camera. They should've just put that camera into the x6 and stopped with the all-touch devices until they come out with a BRAND NEW OS.
Plus it looks very much like the Milestone but it also looks thicker than that. How can they build a new all-touch phone and make it thicker than a phone with a touch screen AND a qwerty..

Yeah I mean it isn't hard to just make all of this stuff up and have it sound official. Even if this is fake though, I'm sure a lot of these specs will be the same as the actual device.

I really hope so because up until today they still have nothing that compares to the rest of the market. I hate when someone sees my phone and I tell them I paid $500 for this phone with a 5mp camera but then I try to show them a picture I took with and it takes about 15 second just to open 3 menus..

I really doubt most would have noticed the difference. It was the software that was bugged and needed fixing. What problems there are almost non-existent these days. Biggest single flaw in the original N97 remains the C: and since the available C was doubled with v20 that is mostly moot, too.

Ok, I can see some of your points. But if you are going to make a camera phone, one that may be your flagship, sporting your top of the line 12mp camera and Carl Zeiss lens, why would you leave it exposed? So that you can take large pictures with defects from scratches?

For every 1 person that has a problem with a lens cover, I can show you 2 people with scratches on an unprotected lens.

The thing is that MeeGo and Symbian^4 will be all about Qt and since Qt 4.6, newer versions will be compatible with the older ones. Apps you will be using in S^4 and MeeGo will be compatible with S^3. Some of the test Qt 4.6 apps in N900 look amazing, but hopefully we will actually start seeing good numbers of them already in the time of Symbian^3.

N8 and E7 definitely looks like something that i already hoped to see a year ago from Nokia. Galaxy S looks sweet, but as i'm looking something to replace my Omnia HD the N8 looks like it could be up to the task.

Its not really just tethering. You can create a wifi hotspot that multiple devices can share. So it turns your 3G signal into a wifi signal that other devices, not just a pc, can use. So ipods and ipads and laptops and tablets and handheld games...and it can receive calls at the same time.
