They are claiming pretty big numbers for battery usage for that 1200mah.
Liking the fact that Nokia can finally make thin camera flagship phone. 12.9mm on the camera module isn't bad at all.

From a user point of view, not a lot. It basically takes the UI to what S60V5 should have been when it launched. It's not really competitive with other touch interfaces, but it's a big step in the right direction.

From a developer's point of view, it does have QT which makes development easier. It's optional, but I can't see any manufacturer leaving it out.

From a pragmatist's point of view, it's a step in the right direction that should have been taken two years ago. To follow what liknsmak said, it'll probably keep some of the existing developers on board. It won't bring any new ones into the fold.

I may be a minority but I love S60 and many around here do too.

Hopefully Nokia releases a E73.

For me all I would need/like for the e73 is to be the e72 with a screen just as good or better than the BB 9700 and a navpad tweak.

BOOM! I would happily plunk down the cash on launch... :buddies:

The pictures of the N8 that have been leaked definitely show that there is an automatic lens cover under the glass but as far as anything other than that, I don't know.

I see, well it seems it does include all of the bands.

You make some very good points. But the N900, you should use one and you'll see why they didn't market it. If you go to the Maemo forum to talk about how unfinished it is they will attack you and say pretty much that you are an idiot for not knowing what you bought. They will say that it is a MID and not really a phone. Then they will say it is really for testers. The first point is somewhat true but not an excuse. The second is true.

The N900 has some of the makings of a competitive device but it is very raw as it stands. You could never rely on it. It really is for testing, show off, nerd boasting etc. The interface is improved over Symbian, but is far from iPhone/WebOS/Android smooth. You see it running out of memory and tapping into the pagefile. You notice when it happens.

Now that's why the N900 could only appeal to a tiny niche of people who need a tester device. It could only make Nokia look even worse if it was advertised. Now when they switch to Moorestown hardware they could actually have a decent device on their hands, but I completely hate how they do not take responsibility for anything. The Maemo zealots over there cannot admit any failings and act as if you are attacking their religion should you point out anything. They also talk about how the "community" will fix everything. But this is Nokia's product and they need to take responsibility for it and I think they seem to want to let the users take responsibility for it. It's like an author selling a book with lines on the pages asking YOU to write the novel yourself. I think it is a good platform with potential but the people behind it have proven to be incompetent and therein lies the rub. They promised certain things in "the next firmware update" which apparently are still not done. They always say "next firmware update" not realizing that they lose credibility every time they fail to deliver. There is one core of apologists that they can string along and NEVER wrong in their eyes. Those people will always support Nokia as if this company and its products fills some kind of void in their lives. Other companies have their share of such "followers" too and I suspect some of them waited in line for that iPad thing.

I think such people help companies get away with making crap products and it holds us all back. They are the enemies of merit based progress.

A lot of what they're doing with the latest OS is very cool. For example: a vendor neutral micropayment api has both business and gaming potential.

And let's not forget they continue to create better and better displays on their qwerty phones.

EDIT: Oh, and their newest 3G phones support all regions. That's fairly innovative

DAMN IT!! These are the spec's i've been wanting for (full touch, better than average camera and flash, changeable storage) but from everything I've seen so far 'IT'S MONO SPEAKER OUTPUT' I need to replace my N95 and I've been saving for this phone and expecting it to be north of $700 wo/ a contract but I need stereo speakers. I listen to music, streaming audio, to much for it to be mono. If it not atleast as loud as the N95 I don't know what i'm gonna do. I know the speaker sounds petty but it could be a deal breaker.

UUUGGGHHH

You know, it might be worth it to Nokia if they just bundle in SPB Mobile Shell with the N8. The new version is Symbian compatible. It'll be like what HTC does with Sense.

In any case, I'm pretty confident now that I won't be missing out on anything from Nokia until they have a Meego phone, so the Omnia is officially my last Symbian device.

I believe it will either have a dedicated GPU (video accelerator?) or a part of the CPU will be dedicated for graphics -- I forget.

You'll have nothing to worry about. :)

but in fairness symbian^3 competes with iPhone and Android. it isn't as bad as you're thinking at all. it will be a huge change.

the problem is they will break binary compatibility going to symbian^4 which will suck for developers. but actually I thought any app written in QT should be trivial to bring into ^4.

Nice design. Looks like the leaked pic before MWC. I'm assuming, from the industrial design, that its a qwerty slider like the N97/N97 Mini. Too many non-flush (looking) buttons on the outside... I wonder if the final model will be cleaner in this respect.

Unfortunately, outside of OS and processor, I don't know that its much more than a "skating to where the puck is at" - unlike that pushing ahead (making a top of the line device). Which isn't a bad thing.

Price wise, hardware looks like Nokia might be able to command a small premium for this ($500ish where $350-400 would have been a better place to start).

The screen is at least 4in. Its not proportioned the same as the N97 sitting beside me, its larger. Wonder what that will do to screen sharpness.
