Hot rumor: The Nokia N8 with Symbian^3

It's just a mock-up as of now, one of the many. S^3 is supposed to have some light UI/UX changes (Graphics will look different like what an icon looks like, as well as fewer clicks to get to a menu/place, etc...), while S^4 is supposed to be an overhaul with the introduction of Direct UI using Qt.
What do you mean "deeper level OS stuff?" Do you mean why all of the icons, menus, look different?
At least they changed it, unlike MS with WM6.5.x still having a horrible GUI when going deeper into the settings.

They are not making competitive "products" within themselves, but are taking time to do that to S^3, when they could be implementing that into Qt for S^4. So when the time comes to choosing a device, will you buy a S^3 device, or a S^4 device?
 
Yeah, but now that I'm hearing that Symbian 3 is just S60v5 FP2, I'm no longer interested. I did suspect it though, reading all the comments coming out of Nokia. I've pretty much written off the N8, unless Nokia offers it unlocked out of the gate at a really cheap price point. If they want to sell it to me for $250, unlocked, unbranded, I'll consider it.

In any case, the hardware seems cool enough. I'll wait for Symbian^4 if I decide to buy Nokia at all again. N97 was a pretty big disappointment.

Here's hoping that the next Maemo6/MeeGo device will be have those 5 wireless bands... I'll take the Xenon flash too :D Geez, just stuff that stuff into a N900 and I'll be cool.
 
Looking closer at this picture, what is the black cutout area to the right of the white lettering? Could it be something to do with a lens cover, similar to the N82?
 
Symbian^3 is not even released yet. So obviously Eldar doesn't have the final software. Everyone is getting all upset over the review of someone with an axe to grind. Symbian^3 has the unique ability to run all the current s60 apps as well as having QT. QT is where Nokia should shine as they bought a good company with a great product and integrated it across both Symbian and MeeGo so anyone else who uses those operating systems can benefit from that integration as well. I'm looking forward to this device and I hope a US carrier will pick it up. Without carrier support Nokia will always lag in the US.
 
Yeah, if they keep making their high end phones, like the N900, with only T-Mobile's North American 3G, they've lost me too.

Sorry, but I actually need reliable phone service and a carrier that's on their way to 4G. Many T-Mo areas haven't even reached 3G yet, still stuck on EDGE. Their pricing plans are great, but that's because their coverage foot print is much smaller.

So, yeah, I would have loved to have given the N900 a chance, but T-Mo was a no go and I'm not buying a >$500 device to run on it only on AT&T's EDGE.

When is a manufacturer going to make a REAL unlocked U.S. phone, that contains both GSM carriers' 3G radios? I have to assume technology is at a point where the size of the components are no longer an issue.
 
1) I hope those screws are recessed and removable for battery swapping. I will burn Nokia if the battery is not swappable.
2). Screen bezel gaps. Better not be another issue with dust getting in.
3). Enough with the protruding camera module, extend the cover so it sits flush. I don't want to put my device screen down, just so it sits flat on a desk.

The design looks nice, hopefully the internals are as well.
 
Yup . these same two observations I was about to post. There is a led there and it looks pretty big to assist in video recording , other than act as a focus asisted beam and that black part on the right can be a manual lens cover on the lines of N82 ;) Now what is left .. Fixed battery , I dont mind it as long as this thing comes with 256 mb ram .. on the side note nokia should provide a special key for hanging issue if the battery is fixed .. :lol: on serious note it may be cos they wanted to make it a slim device .. I am impressed if this thing is true and hope it comes out fast ..

Also nokia only failed in recent years cos they went for poor hardware .. had N97 came with omap 3 and 256mb ram it would have been a different story altogether.. Heck I even wanted omap3 on my N86 even if it does good with its existing platform ..

If the final product is what Eldar is showing, Symbian^3 is not living up to expectations - the UI is exactly like what we've been seeing on S60v5.

While S^3 is now a shared OS, Nokia need to put in their own touch to the OS - like what HTC did to Windows Mobile interface on the HD2 and the likes.

I still think Symbian is a really powerful and capable OS. Nokia needs to use the time properly to fix the UI - it needs to dumb it down so a even monkey can use it.
 
Oh you're right lol, forgot about them. However, so far Sushi shouldn't be of any interest to people ;). I put up "high-end" devices, but don't really know anything about Takai haha.
 
That back button needs to be placed better. Its already annoying in the current symbian when you are done typing text and that green check box is all the way at the top corner. Its so hard to reach one handed, like they purposely put it as far away as the screen allowed. To do this with something as heavily used as a back button would be a real shame.
 
No, it is both 850 and 1900. Trust me, take it from an i8910 owner with 3G on the 1900 band.

The reason that it must work on 850 as well is that, AT&T at the end of last year and throughout this year, will be transitioning their 3G network to the 850 band, leaving 1900 for EDGE, which will eventually go away. AT&T is doing this to, of course, accommodate the huge number of iPhone users on their network pulling down data. 850 is said to have a better ability to penetrate walls, i.e work inside thick walled buildings, like in Manhattan or downtown San Francisco.

If the N8 does not support 850 3G-HSDPA, then, DO. NOT. WANT.
In around a year's time, I would no longer have 3G+ data service on a high priced phone. My Omnia is already spotty with 3G as it is.
