Hot Fuzz - what's all the fuss about?

Mildly amusing in places I'll admit but a lot of stuff was predictable - my 14 year-old son kept pre-empting visual jokes e.g - and it went on way too long.
I enjoyed the mindless violence parody at the end but it was distinctly average on the whole.

Totally agree-i was so disappointed with this film, i love Simon Pegg and thought Shaun of the Dead was bloody hilarious but this just fell flat. A couple of funny bits but they were in the trailer anyway.
And yes i agree about it being too long-it could easily ended 15 minutes earlier-no need for the 'extra bit' after you'd thought it would end.

Heh, I thought completely the opposite. Thought Shaun of the Dead had a couple of funny moments but was nothing to write home about. Thought Hot Fuzz was brilliant though.

I saw it at the pics when it came out and was a bit disappointed, however watched it again on Sky and thought it better 2nd time around. It is a bit long though.

I don't particularly think there is a 'fuss' about Hot Fuzz - yes, the hype was fairly large beforehand, as was the advertising campaign .. but reviews were so-so.

It's not generally been bigged up as some masterpiece.

Some people liked it, others didn't. I personally enjoy Pegg et al's work, but it was far from the best movie I've ever seen. Same with Shaun really. I enjoyed both, but they're nothing to write home about.

The problem with Hot Fuzz is not because it's too long (it's around 2 hours which should be fine) but because of its pacing.

The flashcuts and short scenes are there from the off, so it actually tenRAB to make it all seem more relentless and longer than it actually is. This pace should have been reserved for the final third (when the action kicks off, as opposed to the sequences featuring Swans, and Sea-Mines not blowing up).

It's a very cleverly written film, but SotD is far superior.

Personally... um... no... I did not find this film funny and this really annoys all my other frienRAB, this seems to be a gift to the Earth according to some people and truth be told, this is (personally) a giant waste of time.
Not funny, not acted, not written well... waste for me and I wish I could have those two hrs of my life back!

I watched it soon after watching Run Fatboy Run and lots of people said that HF was really funny. I didnt think too much to it, was alright, but not hilariously funny. Much preferred Fatboy.

The outtakes though on the DVD, well, I was in stitches!!

It was probably predictable to your son because most of the film is just parodying other action movies. On the DVD there is a Trivia Track that lets you know which movie it is parodying.

To fully "get" Hot Fuzz you really need to be an action movie fanatic.

Also on the DVD, i was peeing myself at one of the extras that basically replaces the swear worRAB with other worRAB:

"You're off the funking (f*cking) chain!"

lol.

Good Lord, really? I really enjoyed HF, whilst Fatboy was the only film in 2007 during which I walked out of in the cinema. Depressingly bad stuff.

I saw it at the cinema & thought it was hilarious. I live in one of 'those' villages though. Maybe it helps to do so & 'get' the cultural references :D

Hot Fuzz is a superb film, very rich in comedy and parodies, and brilliantly written. It's destined to be considered a classic in years to come IMO.
