PLEASE HELP!!! Ive had acne since i was 15, im now 20 and it is clearing up but slowly. I think im very heathly i eat the right fruit and veg and i do regular excercise. I also hav another problem, some times my cheeks, underneath my eyes and accross my nose goes bright red and feels very hot, it happens more at work wen im tired but sometimes it just happens out of the blue, and it looks very odd! i get very paranoid wen it happens and i feel as tho every ones looking at me, and this makes it go redder and hotter until my whole face looks like im sun burnt!! Has any one got this aswell?? Is it linked to my acne?? How can I prevent it??

yea I can relate...If the temperature changes drastically from cold to hot or if I'm in a hot room, my cheeks go red and flush (I can definilty feel them burning). Or if i think about it too much i become erabarrassed and they go redder. It only happens on my cheeks however. Yours could be pre-rosacea...I'm just a blusher naturally I guess. I'd change this problem before i'd change having acne, thats how much I hate it. But sometimes I can control it (epecially when i'm cold, i'm guarenteed not to blush).

This is what you can do:

1. You can go to a derm. and see if they think IPL's would work for you. This is "intense pulsed light", which helps rosacea sufferers (it kills the dilated blood vessels and capillaries). I've had six done, and it smoothed my skin and helped a little with perm. redness and flushing but the bad part about it is that its no cure. My redness came back because the capillaries grow back and the price is very expensive ($300-$500 a treatment).

2. You can go to your regular doctor and get a perscription for meRAB that are for people with high-blood pressure such as Propanolol, Nadolol (which i use, only really in stressful situations). These help stop the blood from rushing to your face.

3. You can try to train yourself not to go red (which is really hard and most times i can never do it..lol)

4. Try to conceal it with makeup

5. Drink plenty of cold water to keep yourself cool.

Hope this helps :)

Hey I get red hot cheeks sometimes. The beauty therapist said it was due to enviromental factors and I should wear a daily defense moisturizer or a sunscreen. I've been using Dermalogica Anti Bac Cooling Masque on my face at night and it feels soo soothing and my face feels excellent the next day. You could apply an aloe vera gel? But i'm not sure if that would make you break out or not, i've never tried it on my face yet. As for training yourself not to go red as xismybaby said, think 'cool'. Think ice, snow, water etc. Unfortunately I never remeraber when the time comes...

I use the product Sensibio Flush: it's great against blushing etc! It's just a moisturizer, healthier than taking propranolol etc. I don't know if they have it where you live though...

About 2 weeks ago I began taking propanolol for heart palpitations and high blood pressure and now I am breaking out like a teenager. I've always had compliments on my complexion and now I am hiding out until they go away. The only thing I've done differently is take propanolol...so it must be the culprit. I've searched many sites for the side effects of propanolol but none have said anything about acne. Nice to know I'm not the only one! I am not going to take it anymore!

I noticed there was a brief discussion on the acne board about Propranolol, and although it wasn't directly associated with the acne itself I actually ended up contacting to the makers of Propranolol last year to make a complaint because, to cut a long story short, I believe that there is a link between taking this tablet and the development of acne - over a period of years I was temporarily on these three times in total, and on the 3 occassions that I was prescribed this medicine I developed acne patches on my face, which although cleared after I discontinued the use of the tablet, nonetheless came back once I resumed the medicine again.
Of course there is no definitive proof but my doctor thought this was a good observation and I thought that I would mention it to other people on here.

Thank you for your post! I posted a reply but I'm not sure if I did it right because I could not see it.
