Hostel 2

well if your not interested thats your choice but some people like trhe gory scene, i myslef like a bit of blood and guts in a film it gets your heart racing and makes your feel on edge.

i for one cannot see what others see in love films, they are boring nd lack that edge about them to keep watching.
BUT its all relative to the person isnt it really!:)
 
I enjoyed it, mainly because i didnt have high expectations. I cringed at some of the grosser parts but all in all it was quite entertaining IMO.

Didnt like when that dude killed the little boy, didnt think it necessary :(
 
Just finished watching it. Although the ending was a little over the top, overall I thought it was a great film.

I felt pretty proud of myself for spotting the Elisabeth Bathory reference too. :cool:
 
I watched this on dvd yesterday - I think I prefer the Hostel series to the ever expanding Saw series, as the Hostel films do feel more cinematic, and on the whole are better acted. It would be nice to see more of a return to horror movies which are genuinely scary though, rather than ones that just aim to make you spew.
 
I love gory films, if it's a horror then the gorier the better, but i also want a decent story to go along with it, and in my opinion the Hostel films lack plot, likeable characters and any sense of tension. These films are just violence for the sake of violence, and even then it seems that Eli Roth seems to think they are more violent than they really are, the first one barely showed anything, most of it happened off camera thanks to snappy editing.

Again, this is just my opinion, and i respect people's right to like whatever they want, so don't rip into me for speaking my mind.
 
That scene was a homage to the chap in it who was (name escapes me) the writer and director of Cannibal Holocaust. (some itailian guy).

As a whole I found the film no where near as interesting and dark as the first. One review said it was more like an old Hammer Horror film (especially the girl in the bath with the other girl over her).

Can't see another being made and thats a good thing.

Did like the way the film's story was shot from the clients perspective however, nice touch.
 
I like gory films as well.

I find small slices of gore (excuse the pun) are more powerful, as I can get past its the obvious special effects cutting in.

But

If you get a chance look at the trailer for the new Rambo film. A scene there where Rambo shoots a guard with a large machine gun is one of the goriest shots I have ever seen in a film. If you a gore fan head there :-)
 
Yeah, i saw that trailer a while back, it looks awesome! No doubt it will get slated by the same critics who slated Rambo 3 (it was the most OTT of the 3 films, but that's what i loved about it, it was so silly but it knew it, giving it some cheesy 80's action film charm), but i seriously couldn't care less what critics think, it's Rambo! :D

Personally, i think that the greatest movie death ever is from the original RoboCop film:

1 Man + Toxic Waste + High Speed Car = Splat

The first one was pretty decent [after the first 26 minutes had passed]. But this miserable sequel fails on every level. It is a poor excuse of a movie. It is completely boring and it wont ever be in my collection in any way shape or form [free or not] it just isn't worth it. I have seen it all done before the stuff in Hostel 2 [and done better].

Hostel is like Manhunt the video game.

The original is a breath of fresh air. The second installment doesn't bring anything new to the table and looks and smells stale when in comparisson to the first.
 
i almost fell asleep in the first one and i have been avoiding this on,but to be honest i have always thought quentin tarantino was a poor director same as uwe bowl
 
Wow, Wolfcreek is a masterpiece compared to the Hostel movies.

Hostel was one of the worst horror movies I have seen in a long time.

Hostel II was slightly better for me, but it was still rubbish.


Welcome to the Dollhouse is fab though.
 
Just watched 'Hostel II' today on DVD, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would as I'd heard bad reviews about it compared to the first.

It was a bit predictable,
I guessed that Beth would turn out to be the killer rather than end up as a victim
but all-in-all a satisfying ending.
 
Eli Roth is a strange director in that he makes satires which (judging by the comments of some of the posters here at least) are lost on a large percentage of the audience.
