Hospital Moral issue...should Dr.s discuss patient info?

scenario: A patient is injured at work and a co worker drives him to the ER the Dr. orders a drug and alcohol test. The co worker over hears and tells the boss. The boss then tries to get the results of the test from the DR. because of insurance and safety concerns. Legally the Dr. can not give this info. Morally this may not be right but could you give some conflicting reasons why the Dr should and should not give this info? Besides law?

Please I need pros and cons of Why or why the dr should not give this information. Yes legaly they can not but some may think that marally they should. I'm just looking for differences in opinions. Please.

well its the law.because all jobs policy states that anytime an employee gets injured,big are small they have to take an alcohol &drug test.for the fact of workers compensation.because if it involves either the 2 or both then workers comp. doesnt want to pay for your injurys.so therefore it has to be done.and if it being your fault then thats just it.and then in some places you get a write up cause if you didnt follow safety procedures.
 
Heresay pretty much is the same as gossip - perhaps that coworker is telling malicious stories and not the truth about what was overheard. However, I'd find it surprising that the insurance carrier for this company won't be able to obtain copies of the medical records on this patient, as well as whomever processes Workers' Comp claim, if there is one made by the employee. There's also the possibility the injured worker signed a blanket release at the time of employment so the employer can obtain copies of medical records. However, the most common way to obtain copies is not to request the info from the doctor but from the Medical Record or Health Information Department. The only way these records wouldn't be released if if there is no signed Release of Information form provided to the health care facility where the worker was treated.

Suggestion: Get on the Internet, and look up "Am I an alcoholic?" and apply those conditions to a workplace.
