Yes there is a difference. (Aesculus hippocastanum is the Latin name.) White ones grow taller than the red or pink ones. I don't know of any other colours apart from light pink or cream variation.
The flower color is the difference. Sometimes the ones with white flowers are buckeye trees (in the same family), and those come in white, pink, red, and yellow.
