my colt will be here july long weekend and i still have to buy him brushes!!! so i know that there is the curry comb, soft bristle brush, hard bristle brush, mane and tail combs but i'm thinking even these few things could get pricy. i dont mind spending a lot for good quality though. but if there is a cheaper way to go then could you please let me know. ive heard that you can use human hairbrushes for the mane and tail but what types would i use and all that good stuff that i should need to know bout it. im trying to go for less money on the brushes because i know its possible and i still have to buy some other items (boasl bridle, lunge line, etc.)
what do u use for brushing your horse or horses?

one other question so that i dont use up too many points.

im training him and all he really knows is how to be haltered and lead a little bit. so obviously, i have a lot of work to do. he's really good though. so far (hes a year and a few months) he doesnt kick or bite (sometimes he nibbles) and he seems like he'll be fairly easy to train so my question:
should i buy a safety vest for training him or should i even worry about buying any safety clothing, being he's so well mannered.
i forgot to mention! im training my colt with natural horsemanship
thanks a ton so far for your answers you guys! they're great! but for other answerers i just wanna let u know that i uunderstand i need to be safe its just im not for sure on what to get on being a safe trainer.
i also understand that i will not know him inside out at first and that, yes, he could very well spook or kick in a year or however but he also might not.
one other thing. i understand how to train a horse. i have a couple of trainers also guiding me along the way when i need some help. and i also understand that i cannot ride my horse until his joints are fully grown.
