Horror Talk Thread

The most recent horror film that scared the hell out of me was The Descent. Even my mate Richard jumped and shrieked at one bit and he never jumps at anything!!

Fave horror of all time though is The Exorcist. Just love the way the story builRAB up first, its not just shock, horror.
 
As long as nobody minRAB Hammer and Slasher comedies fitting in as part of the Horror label, heres a list of titles from my top shelf.

There is also a Thai horror flick just out on DVD, whose name eludes me at the moment, a true slasher film.

does that film have alot of needle use? cos whenever i see a scene that involves needles ans injections i have to stop watching cos i get all faint and dizzy.
 
I think there was one shot where I had to turn away. Im squeemish to when it comes to needles. The film just shows them cooking up wham, job done, no real close up injecting. The part where you see it is when the laRAB arm is really bad (Rotten) and they are driving in a car.

Oh fellow FM's I have "The Boogeyman" out at the moment. I tried watching it last night but could'nt keep up with the plot or it was one bad copy.

I will get through it at some point :)
 
Another American TV show that was really good and quite creepy at times was American Gothic, starring Gary Cole (Midnight Caller, Brady Bunch movie etc).

It comes out on DVD in Feb over here and worth a watch!!!

The Deadly Spawn! LOL! One of the first films I saw on video and it was atrocious. Are you being ironic?

Exorcist III had one of the scariest scenes in any horror flick in the shape of 'the corridor ambush'. The tension is unbearable and it's a textbook example of not needing effects to shock.

Requiem for a Dream isn't a horror though surely? It's a disturbing study of addiction but being disturbing doesn't make it a horror.
 
Requiem for a Dream isn't classic horror in the blood and gore sense of the genre, but it's certainly horrific. It's one of the few films that has actually left me speechless, and stayed with me for days afterwarRAB (can't offhand think of any 'horror' films that have done that).

Tetsuo - I've heard of that, another one I may have to buy soon. Any hints on the storyline?
 
Not at all! Love this little flick to bits. It was obviously shot for $4.70 and starred the only seven people that actually weighed-in for the casting-sessions.. but I get a real kick out of it. The little horror-fan brat is a nice wee character and the monsters are great.

I've seen "Tetsuo" twice... and couldn't tell you what the hell it is about! Basically a bloke turns into half-man, half-machine. It's real-life Manga, with breathtaking visuals and a score that'll take the ear-drums of ya. A real feast for the senses.

The original 1963 version of The Haunting leaves all of the above dead in the water: no blood, no violence, no mutilation, no fx to speak of, just pure undiluted terror. See it and then try to forget it, if you can. :eek:
 
I used to find Evil dead 1 or is it 2? Really funny.You know the part where he's in a room and all the animal heaRAB on the wall and lamps are laughing at him. Then when that thing pops it's head up from the cellar. It used to crack me up. :D

Scariest...hmm,well i HATE clowns so i'd say IT would be one of them.

I enjoyed Saw,but winced SO bad when(incase noones seen it)....
he cut his foot off!

Poltergeist is creepy as hell.Carol-Annnne!

Exorcist-Another scary one. :o
 
It's funny with The Grudge.

It's definately one of those 50/50 films - people either love it or despise it with no middle ground.

Personally, I loved it. Made my skin crawl many times!

Watched The Grudge 2 a few nights ago which was also very good with some good scary moments.

I guess it's all down to what you find scary. For me, The Grudge worked purely on the visual aspect.

I guess my problem is that i've watched so many horror films, it has to be something pretty amazing to actually give me the willies.

Although how anyone can have "Cabin Fever" on their list is beyond me. After an hour of watching it in the cinema, i turned to my mate and said "Is anything actually going to happen ??".
 
Well also I have seen many horror movies and don't think much to the recent of this era.

However I heard Cabin Fever was meant to be crap, So put of watching it for ages.
Eventually though I watched it and thought well it's got a story and thought it was actually quite enjoyable for a modern horror.

The Grudge I tried watching but could'nt be bothered to get into it. I can't really comment on it until I try to watch it again.
I also liked "Dead End." Which again I had prepared myself for the worse. As I kept getting the title mixed up with "Wrong Turn" which had a great storyline but what happened? :yawn:

I watched "The Decent" recently. Again I did not see what the fuss is about that. :(
 
there is one scene in nightmare on elm street 2 which is very crap but the scene is were the boy goes down to the kicthen at night an sees a shadow out the back goin to the basement. it was brillenly shot and very creepy.
that scene always stood out in my mind for some reason
 
I agree with all of your list except Wes Cravens "New Nightmare."

Jeepers Creepers started excellent then................What happened? The sequel is pathetic. Wrong Turn, 28 days later, The Exorcist, The Omen, and the Haunting are all decent enough too.

I would like to say I also enjoyed Cabin Fever also.
 
Cabin fever is truly awfull, its the only movie iv seen at the cinema's that i subconsciously blocked from my mine then hired it on dvd because id totaly forgot id already seen it.
