Funny that all horror recommendations are all older movies and nothing new.
I doubt that with all the imagination and technical ability in the world that we are going to get a spate of 'brilliant' and 'scary'....or even 'original' horror movies for quite some time.
There are a few topics somewhere with lists of good horror films but I can't seem to find them...
The Orphanage - very good
A Tale of Two Sisters
Inside
Martyrs
Haute Tension/Switchblade Romance
The Haunting - original
The Changeling
The Descent
[REC] - there is also now a sequel if you can manage to see it
The Hills Have Eyes - remake
Psycho - original
The Tenant - not really Horror, but I found it quite creepy
Repulsion - same as above
Ringu - original
Trick 'r' Treat - try this new one
Into the Mirror - original
Shutter - original
Freaks (Todd Browning)
The Tenant
Peeping Tom
Possession
Don't Look Now
The Wicker Man
Rosemary's Baby
The Devil Rides Out
Scars Of Dracula
Eyes Without a Face
Intruder
Suspiria
Profondo Rosso
Phenomena
Santa Sangre
Videodrome
The Devils
The Brood
The Changeling
Phantasm
Re-Animator
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Dellamorte Dellamore
The Thing
Hellraiser
Candyman
Audition
Let The Right One In
Martyrs
Antichrist
MMT was fun times. Even Vinnie Jones was tolerable.
Also Masters Of Horror Season 1 is well worth a look. I thought Cigarette Burns (John Carpenter), Dreams In The Witch House (Gordon), Fair Haired Child (Malone) and Jenifer (Argento) were all very enjoyable. The banned Takashi Miike episode is so extreme I watched large chunks from behind a pillow. If you are squeamish about fingernails or needles then AVOID at all costs.
