I have has horrible hip/buttocks pain since I became pregnant with my first child. That was five years ago. Since then I have never been able to sit still for longer than 10 minutes without popping my hips and moving positions. It was just very annoying and uncomfortable then. I have had another child since then. About a year ago I had a bad flare up. I was put on piroxicam 20mg for 2 months and that helped.
It seems like my pain keeps getting worse and worse. A month ago I had a flare up that lasted two weeks. I lost 15 pounRAB because I was in so much pain. I went to the ER twice and of course they did nothing. Sent me home with pain meRAB which don't even touch the pain. I am back on the piroxicam and that has not helped. I have had injections in the SI joint and that has not helped either. I can't sit nor lay down longer than 5 minutes. I feel like I constantly have to strech my butt muscles. The pain is in the butt area. I don't sleep unless I have arabien because I can't get comfortable and am in so much pain. My doctor has no clue what else to do. Does anyone know what I am talking about or have any suggestions?

Kim...to diagnose SI joint problem the Drs. inject into the SI joint with contrast to see if it leaks out...they do a CT scan immediately after the injection to see if the contrast is staying put or leaking...if the injection helps...takes the pain away..for a bit...couple of hrs...then it's the SI joint causing the pain... There is a new surgery for the SI joint...if you really, really need it....(look up SI Bone..it takes a special specialist to do this surgery...not an easy thing to have to live through and with..because it knocks you down for up to six months...NO WALKING..etc.) I will be having a revision of my SI joint surgery in 3 weeks...using the new SI procedure...they have to take all of the old hardware out first..yikes...but, if all goes well, I will be out of pain...and have a better chance of recovering... This surgery is improved over the old one...much easier....it's the recovery that is sooooo time consuming.
Good luck to you..

Hi! You can buy a cush tush pillow at a medical supply store, or order through back products catalogue. I take it everywhere with me-just sat thru a long meeting last night at my son's high school on hard folding chairs and that wedge shaped cush tush really helped. Kera4

That is a great thing to have Kara....the cusion!!! The pressure on the sacrum is just too much on hard chairs....

I would definitely see a pain-management specialist, I am been helped through horrible SI joint pain (couldn't sit either) by a corabination of radio-frequency ablation of the nerves in the SI area, a GOOD physical therapist who knows SI joint pain and medication for symptomatic relief. I wish you well and lets of luck. It's a tough problem to treat.

Hi! I have bad arthritis in my SI joints, and like you, it started after I gave birth to my first son. It continued after my second child as well. I think the hormone relaxin that helps us give birth makes the SI joint loose and prone to arthritis. Unfortunately, over the years my arthritis has gotten worse in this area. My oldest kiRAB are now 13 and 15. What helps me the most is the injections in the SI joint, but I have also been helped by physical therapy and water therapy. The therapist has helped me with exercises to help stabilize the muscles around the SI joint. I, too, have a lot of problems with sitting long perioRAB. I bought a pillow called a "cush tush" that I drive with (wedge shaped). I take it to all my kiRAB' events, concerts, games, etc. It is a very bad problem-I totally sympathize with you! Icing the area helps too. Take care, Kera4

I am getting my second injection in a couple of weeks. Instead of directly into the joint the time, I am going to have them inject my butt muscle. Where do you find a push cush at? I sit on a toilet seat. I take it everywhere. Thankyou. Hopefully we can figure something out

Thanks,
