HORRIBLE service, help!!

help me o wise stackers...

i absolutely love my 8700g. and i love tmo customer service. but my reception is KILLING me. i live in nyc, in midtown, and have to hop around in my living room till i get a clear signal. visited LA, dropped calls left and right. went to see my folks in nj, my phone was constantly searching for a signal...

i called tmo and they suggested i back up my data, then download v4.10.284, even though i already have this version on my phone (it's only 2 months old). will this actually help my reception? is there anything else i should ask tmo about? does this sound like anything any of you might have gone through?

thanks for any help!

That is odd. I would say it could possibly be a defective radio on the device. Would it be possible for you to compare another Tmobile BB side by side at your location? That would show you if the difference in signal between the two is significant which SHOULD prompt them to get you a replacement. Good luck to ya. I love my Tmo service

thats odd, been out to L.I with NO issues.

I work in midtown Manhatten- NO issues...

Only time I ever experieced a signal issue is if a tower was down (happened twice) or if I was in a elevator or subway or something like that.

MM- what is your zip code man? Cause I've been all over Manhatten and I get signals all over.

techiegirl-- thanks for the store suggestion, i'll definitely try that. this is my second 8700, the first one had a problem with call quality as well, but it was the unit. who knows, maybe i lucked out again...

thanks for the link 17oobie! it looks like i should be fine here in ny, so maybe it is the radio in my unit. which answers your question, pegeuro-- i'm in 10019, and i should be fine. ugh.

so, no one thinks re-downloading v4.10.284 will do anything?

Have you called TMO?

They can tell you if there is a problem with an antenna or something. I had a similar issue a while ago, the moment I walked out of my zip code I had crystal clear reception, in my zip code I had NO signal at all.

I am all around the Los Angeles area with my 8700g on T-Mobile and it is great, no problems except sometimes in my house up in the hills, but that has been true on all networks I've been on.

I tried TMobile here in Northern Cali. Very poor reception compared to Cingular. I had toi give TMobile up~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~ I
Tr tried Tm

I have been on every major carrier except for Verizon and I have learned that subscribing to the service for a specific phone is the worst thing you can do. You should always take advantage of the buyer's remorse period when you subscribe to new services so you can try them out and make sure that they work for you where they need to.

I've made a couple of hundred dollars worth of mistakes based on choosing carriers for the wrong reasons and most of them have stemmed from me wanting a specific phone. My advice: let the service dictate the equipment.
