Horrible reception with Nokia E70...?

Hey guy, I just got a brand new Nokia E70, the unit is from HK(On the box it says "Made by Nokia" & the phone keypad has few chinese characters). I'm getting some horrible reception in my Basement suite..only 0-1 bars and I often hear the phone "beep" which means it dropped the connection and picks it up again . Now I know you all must be thinking Tri-band phone being used in a Basement suite...what else you expect..? The reason why I'm all fussed is cus I had E61 before this which is a quad band, sold it cus of its big size and got E60(Tri-band).. E60 never gave me any reception problems..It always had 3-5 bars..Why is E70 reception so crappy then? Aren't these all E-series same underneath?

I just updated the firmware using NSU. Im now using...

Code:
2.0618.07.10
31-08-06
rm-10
nokia e70
..Which I believe is the latest for E70 and its still 0-1 bars only .

Is there any way I can boost the reception on this puppy?

Any help is much appreciated

Sounds like you need the E70-2 North American version. That'll give you access to the 850/1800/1900mhz spectrum.

I mean, obviously you'll notice some improvement. Maybe the E60 has a better 1900mhz radio in it, it wont compare to an 850mhz and 1900mhz radio

I have an E70-2 and I have no reception issues here in Manhattan. I have heard rumors of bad reception but I actually have better reception than my old 6682 and equal to 6230b. I almost got the import version because it runs about $90 cheaper than the US but the reception issues are just not worth it to me. Trade it in and get an E70-2 or just stick with another quad-band phone.

I have an e70-2 , and have absolutely no issues with call quality at all. All my calls are crystal clear and always have enough bars to use phone or data. Recently updated to new firmware and web is even better. I`m on t-mobile in phoenix area. I`m lovin this phone!!!

I know bro.. E61 is a quad band.. I was comparing the E70 reception with E60's(Both are Tri-band, But still E60 had better reception compared to E70's).. I have owned all 4 phones from E-series(including E50, just got it) ..But this E70 has been the biggest disappointment so far..

Anyways, Im considering P990i now. I've had M600i for a while now.. Im very happy with the Touchscreen menu and the UIQ OS.. Maybe I will give P990i a try.. I hope the reception and build quality is same as the M600i's

Any thoughts..?

A quick google on 'nokia e70 poor reception' reveals that a lot of people on different forums concur that it's reception is pretty craptastic. *shrug*

Another quick Google on the P990i will make you change your mind. I have yet to read a good thing about it. Apparently, it's buggy to the point of not being functional. You can find some reviews on various websites like gsmarena.com and a video review here.

Would you mind leaving your thoughts out of the thread? What a waste...

Anyways, I barely used my E70-2 for voice at all so I can't comment here. I use it for data alot and rarely experience interruptions. Voice is crisp, clear and classic Nokia quality. For the time that I have used it, I have no complaints in the reception department.

My E70-2 reception sucks compared to my previous phones which were 850 tr-band. The calls are fine it's getting a signal that lacks. I'm on T-Mobile in California, same issue from Southern to Central CA. Maybe a f/w update will help.

I was only asking if that's what you were talking about, not trying to ridicule. Maybe you could be more clear next time.

As a final thought to the E70-2 reception, you should also keep in mind that usually the reception bars are under-exaggerated. You can usually keep a good voice call going with 2 bars but may struggle with 1 bar if the reception becomes lower than it actually shows.

Well, he's not going to see this because he put you on ignore, lol.

I jumped the gun and got an E70 off ebay and didn't realize it didn't have the 850. I contacted the seller and asked if he/she had the E70-2. Still waiting on the reply.

Has anyone used the E70 in the NYC/NJ area?

Is there a map with the frequencies that are covered by Cingular?

OK, just got off the phone with the Ebay seller and cancelled my order. Got charged a $10 relisting fee, no big deal.

Now begins my hunt for the E70-2.

Where can I get it for the best price? So far, the best price I see is from nokiausa.com It's $449 with free shipping.

There are only 2 on ebay right now and one is used. The one that is new is over $450 with shipping.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Just ordered it from the Nokia store. Just missed the 3:00 cutoff for overnight shipping

I'll have the phone on Wednesday.
