hooking up amp to stereo...?

my stereo doesnt turn on unless my lights are on..the accessory wouldnt work so i hooked it up to the illumination wire in the harness...so im fine with that but if i try hooking the turn on lead to the accessory wire that is joined to the illumination would that be a big problem or would it work too? if not what do you suggest for me for my turn on lead? someone said hook it up to the ciggetate lighter wire?
 
don't hook it to your cig. lighter. use a fuse in the panel.25 or 30 amp.make sure the fuse only has power with the ignition on. hope this helps
