Hooking up a ps3 to an old TV.?

Alright, I'm at a friends house and I brought my PS3 for a little video games BUT THE DAMN THING WON'T WORK. Her TV is an older model so I can't hook up the HDMI, but it has the normal red, white, and yellow hookups, yet it is STILL not working. I hooked up a PS2 in the same way and it worked fine, so why isn't the PS3 working? I've tried switching the cords, but no luck. Any advice?
 
you need to connect it back to a HDMI tv and then go to settings and change it to the red white and yellow cable, then go on her old tv

make sure you also change the sound setting as well
 
Make sure the ps3 is on the standby, where the red light is glowing. Now hold the ps3 button for 5 seconds, until you hear a beep, It should adjust.
