Hood catch broken on 1990 Honda Accord?

Tried opening the hood on my Honda accord, popped the catch and nothing happened. How do I open the hood on my car

If only it were as easy as the plastic handle. tried pulling the cable. I think it's disconnected on the other end, inside the hood.
 
try reaching up from under the car with a long screwdriver and see if you can trip the hood.
