Honestly why do people join the military?

I really don't want to hear 'the honor to serve your country' crap because I know thats not the main reason.

Good benefits?
Fun?

Any reason why?

Because I wasn't content to get something for nothing, I'll be damned if someone else is going to bleed for my freedom for me. But don't worry, we don't mind bleeding for yours as well.

Most people who join the military are people who live and grew up in poverty. The military is seen as a way out of poverty but its complicated, many people who serve end up with severe psychological trauma that the military refuses to own up to, so they dont receive adequate medical attention. There are people who join because its a reflection of what they believe and who they are, but dont be fooled the military isnt about making the world a better place its about doing what your told by the government. Its also disgraceful that the government legally gets away with discriminating against LGBT people.

Why ask the question if you're going to tell people they can't answer a certain way because you "know that's not the main reason"?
