Honest Opinions on the 1098

It sounds like you did your test ride in the wrong place.
Back and forth past the dealer isnt the best place for a 1098.

Get it out on the open road and through the twisties, you wont be sorry.

IT IS'NT A CITY BIKE.
It does what is was designed for very well.

I rode it in the right place. I don't want to take a demo bike out on the twisties and have grandma run me off the road. If it takes all of that for the bike to sell then I don't need it. I do the track for fun but that's it. I don't plan on being in AMA or WSBK, ever, so street riding will be more than track riding.

I am super happy with my 1098 and at 5'7". 170 lbs, love the ergos so much I don't feel th eneed for bar risers peg lowering etc. as I had to do with my other past bikes including my '06 CBR 1000RR which I hardly ride now thanks to this 1098.
I understand about liking the bike during a test ride but lots of bikes I bought were researched and not test ridden (some dealers did not allow it).
This bike I test rode it in traffic and on the highway as I too do city riding as well as the usual twisties and country riding. It performed well in all these places and conditions even in stop and go traffic. A little heat in the legs (left hamstring) is fine, no biggie and worth the "inconvenience" of owning this terrific bike.
I have always lusted after the 916 but it was just too expensive for me at the time and I was not a fan of the models that came after that. So, when this baby came around, I told myself that I was not missing the boat all over again as I am already 54 years young!
So if you don't get it, that;s fine as long as you don't keep thinking that you should have bought it because before you know it it will morph into another model! The R1 is also a nice bike.
Good luck on your decision.

I know this is not a good reason to drop 15 - 20 large on a motorcycle, but yesterday coming home on the red 1098s I stopped at a light on a three-lane road. A Ferrari, the exact same color, stopped to my right but a few car-lengths ahead. As I watched the Ferrari slowly backed up and stopped next to me, the dark-tinted window rolled down, and the man in shades looked me and the bike over, nodded his head, rolled the window back up, and rolled ahead.

It doesn't happen on a Harley.

Look, it's as simple as pie. You can't go wrong with purchasing a Duke! I have owned jap bikes (still like Honda) in the past and to my surprise and enjoyment the Ducati beats them all.
When I walked into the dealer (riding my R1) I wasn't looking to buy a bike, just thought I would look around. My 1098s, black in color, hit my like a ton of bricks. I absolutly loved it. Have enjoyed my purchase to this day and will enjoy it for years to come. The Ducati isn't for everyone. It is ONLY for those who can see.
