if the bike is struggling to keep in top gear and you are having to down shift you can change the front sprocket for one with fewer teeth. this means that the overall gearing is lower and for a given road spead the engine will be turning faster but it also means that the engine will no longer struggle to stay in top gear.. overall the bike will be able to cruise at a higher speed.
If the bike is running out of speed and feels like it has enough oomph to keep going then try fitting a front sprocket with one extra tooth. this means the bike will have an overall higher gear ratio and for a given road speed the engine is running slower, accelleration will be slower but the chances of a higher top end speed are increased
but the slightest head wind and the bike will be wanting to change down..
