pull the line that feeds fuel to the carbs at the carbs and crank it over you should see gas if not backtrack if there is gas check for spark if a good strong spark is present the problem is in tne carb if its a weak or no spark trouble shoot it

acted like ran out of gas as i passed a car. was running in reserve tank.(should have been able to go another 2o miles) so had gas brought/ added. now wont start. cycled petcock, battery good, pulled plugs one from front one back(both new and both a little white(lean?)) clutch handle in or out let sit. has gas in lines(not sure if its getting to or through carb though.) starter turns motor but hardley even a sputter?????? any ideas where to look next. heading to bike in a bit to make sure im getting fire at the plug end. help???
went for the safe bet. bike sat while i was at work. battery on batt tender. cleaned plugs, verified fuel to carbs. thanks for the help
runs like a champ again

turn the petcock to the prime position if it has one to bypass the vacume action of the petcock. Once it is running turn to the run position. If it doesnt have a prime position then squirt some gas into the mouth of the carbs and crank it.

Fuel wise.. Change the filter. If not that possible ignition problem. Check for spark at plug wire ends.A light tan color at plugs is fine.

Th VT 1100 Petcock is vacuum actuated meaning as the engine turns over the valve opens. Since the Carburetor bowls were empty it will take some time to fill them and allow the Idle circuit to take over. Look for PRI (depends on the year) on the Petcock Valve and try to start in that position this by passes the vacuum side and will fill the Carb Bowl then turn to ON.

Charge battery and give some time to let the starter cool between tries
