honda integra help with the starting up the car problem?

i have a honda integra 1993 model, the motor is clean as, but when we start the car it sometimes start sometimes doesnt.
for eg. today in the morning i started the car up and it started then it stopped after a few secz when i tryed again it just kept making a clicking noise tick tick tick.. we tryed maybe 7 timez then worked and drove to the shopping centre then he happened again after comming back from the shop?
what may it be and we are going to take the car to the mechanic but how much would u think it will cost to get it fixed?
is it the starter motor?
what is it?
how much would it cost approx?

thanks if you help :D really need to know . very paranoid and fustrated
