Honda Hornet 600 running od after replacing joint between exhaust pipe and silencer?

I have just put a new joint between the exhaust pipes and the silencer, it was not there before ( I have just bought the bike) now suddenly it will not run correctly and stalls, it had an ARROW system before but the original silencer was put back on (without joint) by the seller, it ran OK until I put the joint back in place. Any ideas
