Honda Crank Sensor failure after a complete tune up?

Hi I have a 2004 Civic. 4 days after a complete tune up (timing belt, water pump, etc), the engine light turned on. My mechanice told me the crank sensor failed and needs to be replaced. How often or common is it that that sensor fails after a tune up? Is it possible that it was related to the tune up work? he charges me $175. He said he normally charges 250 since the part already costs $95.
 
My bet is he damaged it and did what he could to make it work. Now he trying to get you to pay for something he damaged. A tune-up doesn't normally involve work around the crank sensor (which is located on the end of the crank shaft away from spark plugs, etc.). The difference between the normal price and what he's charging you is his guilty plea.
