hi I've just replaced the damaged head gasket put it all back together and I can't kick it over. it feels as if the kick start is stuck. I have jacked the back wheel up and put it in gear then turned the rear wheel, thinking this would turn the crank.
I placed a rod in the hole where the plug is to see if the piston moves but its not. Any thoughts please cheers
was about to start to strip down, but I tried turning the crank, it was hard to turn but it worked. i put a paper towel in the top end and found water in the barrel. I got all that out kept trying to start it and it worked, sounds sweet as. thanks for help

Perhaps something fell into the cylinder and is jamming the piston (a tool, part, or piece of gasket).
Remove the left crankcase cover and try to turn the flywheel - forward & backward (remove the spark plug to make it easier).
If the flywheel turns freely, the top end is not the problem.
Did you remove the cylinder?
Perhaps something with the exhaust valve is causing problems - remove the exhaust pipe and look.

it is a two stroke so the piston crown actually passes by the head gasket
So if the head gasket isn't an original it is possible the piston is fouling on the gasket and preventing the engine turning over
either that or you disturbed the piston rings and they have jammed in the barrel or ports.
either way
time to re strip the engine and start again... and don't try to force anything as if you do you could do further damage

If the engine is similar to a car engine then I think you will have to dismantle and re-fit. This needs to be done in a very methodical manner as any difference in timing belt/chain can cause severe problems. Likewise you will have to readjust tappets etc to ensure that clearances are correct.
