my 2002 Honda Civic ex battery suddenly died today. What is the best(and economical) way to fix it ? Buy new battery, buy a jump start cable or recharge the existing battery ? Please advice.

Borrow a voltmeter and check the battery with engine off.If it reads less than 12V,the battery is dead or has a bad cell and may not take a charge.Don't waste money on cables.Your battery is 7 yrs old and due for replacement anyway.Spend a few extra bucks and buy an AGM Battery. In theory the last battery you would ever buy for your car.Sears sell the "Platinum".expensive but worth every penny. While your installing battery, check the entire electrical system.Takes a minute, saves grief and aggravation.

Heres how you can test weather it is the battery. First off the alternator is like a generator so if your car was running and then died, the alternator is probally shot and then it ran off the battery until it was dead... But heres what you can do to test both at home.
Jump start the car, and after its running, disconnect the negative terminal to the battery, If the car dies, its the Alternator. If it stays running its the battery. You get what I am saying. If you have to jump start the car and the car stays running after you disconnect the negative battery terminal than you need a new battery. Keep in mind batteries for cars only last about 3 years. Good luck
