I would spring for the Focus, not saying that the Civic is a bad car either. You really cant go wrong with either.

Look, in the last couple of years who has had the most problems selling cars..who is closing plants laying off workers and going out of business....none of the japanese and south Koreans. American car companies are nt in trouble cause they build quality cars. $15,000....Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic

Ford Focus is a lot roomier and fun to drive, gets up to 35mpg and has a proven reliability track record.

Honda Civic is a nice car as well but it rides way too low, I felt like scraping the floor and felt every bump on the road. Double stacked instrument cluster was also a distraction for me.

Besides, I think we need to support american car companies.
