I have a civic 1996 1.4 done about 94k, the car will not start, the fuel pump does not make a noise on ignition, I got a breakdown service to look at it they got it going by touching or moving the main relay but they where not sure what it could be, how much would it cost for a main relay and how much for a fuel pump, (I have done about 700miles since the breakdown service had a look at it and it will not start again)
i've had it about 2yr 6month and i've services it a few times (changed oil, plugs, oil and air filter) but never change the fule pump

If they started it by moving the relay, then its not the fuel pump.

I would expect the relay to be less than £10.

But, check the connections to the relay also - they may be corroded or loose.

Wiggle the relay again.

Check your owner's manual and see if you have a fuel cut-off reset button. Usually a red button you push to reset the safety cut-off circuit for the fuel pump. Try spraying starting fluid into the air intake and if it starts and stalls, apparently you have good spark and it's a fuel problem as you suspect. Has the fuel filter ever been changed?
