It is an old mower with a cast alloy body. The roller drive has started to stay engaged after the lever has been released. Only happens some times, the roller rotates about 20 times and then stops. I have lubricated the cable but has not cured it yet. The drive engages fine, no judder or jerking etc. Any mower mechanics know what the problem is and how to cure it?

Thanks

Lubricating the cable doesn't always cut it, you are only adding lube to one portion of the cable, and you need to get the entire cable. First, try sewing machine oil. Singer works best. Work the cable for about 30 seconds, then add more oil. If this doesn't work, take the cable off and take it to a repair shop. Tell them to match it as best as they can to another one. Chances are, you won't be able to find the cable for that machine, so you will have to match it to a newer one.
