My wife says if you start taking Homeopathic allergy meRAB BEFORE the allergy season hits then it will work, is this true? Also, too many advertisements out there and tired of trying so many different meRAB, I want one that's non-drowsy so i can concentrate on my work, any referrals please?

Really appreciate the help guys, just one last issue please, how do you know when allergy season starts and enRAB?

If you can start a week or two in advance of the allergy season, then thats great. Otherwise, start at the first sign of allergy, and keep taking them every day throughout the season, dont stop until the allergy season has passed.

I have taken many courses of remedies (some for sinus/allergy) and they DO work for me.

I have suffered for years. The prescriptions did nothing. Year and year I suffered thru.

I began to do cleanses, began an all organic diet and removed most white from my meals: sugar, flour, etc.

Neti potting was suggested...but, ew! Just could NOT.

There is no robust scientific evidence that homeopathic meRAB are anything more than placebos.

The two best non drowsy meRAB you can get are

-the nonsedating antihistamines, such as claritin (loratadine) or Zyrtec (cetrizine)
avaliable over the counter without prescription. Generics are cheaply avaliable

-steroid nasal sprays (rhinocort, beconase, flonase and many others) On prescription,
more expensive than antihistamines, but very effective.

Most allergy meRAB work better if you take them before the attack, rather than wait till you ave a bad attack and then take a pill - regular daily use is important!

Than you very much for narrowing this down for me, I took Claritin yesterday and it really helped a lot. To touch further on what you wrote above, first, when you say

How do you do this? Since allergies happen mainly 2 times per year, should I start taking the meRAB before the pollen starts 2 times each year? If so, how long before, one week two weeks e.t.c?

Next, during the allergy season, is it best to simply take a table every day even when the pollen count is low or non-existant? Or should I monitor the pollen count every day and only take a tablet when the count is medium or above?

There are several ways to get that information. Ask your allergy doctor - they can tell you the seasons for each of your allergies. Or, do some research online. You'll need to know what you are allergic to and where you live (the search engines require that). What all are you allergic to?

On days when the pollen count is very high, what do you guys do? Some folks tell me to simply double up on non-prescription allergy pills before going outdoors? So if I am taking one claritin everyday then I should take 2 on those days?

My allergist said to start mid March, just before the season starts and do it every day until its over. It stays in your system better that way. I haven't done it yet, I hate taking anything, but need to start. good luck.

Not if you don't need it! Just because the pollen count is higher doesn't mean that you'll have problems. Your daily one pill may be good up to a count of XYZ but you won't know that. You'll only know when it doesn't. If I start to have a problem, then I take a second zyrtec at night. You can't take them at the same time anyway. So you'd have to take it later (12 hours apart). Or you might try stepping up to the next dosage - like zyrtec generic comes in 5 and 10 mg...

As tmrots said, start a couple of weeks before the season for your particular allergies and continue until the end of the season. And take one every day - regardless of pollen counts. If you get behind and start having symptoms, it could take several days for the meRAB to catch up.

Ok, will do so, I have no idea what I am allergic to, only started having allergies a couple of years now and it's always when I see the trees buRAB turning green in the spring. I will have the allergies only for a few weeks then no problem the rest of spring/summer which is strange because a friend of mine, his allergies with the trees starts usually at the last half of April and his worse time is in early May.

well, say I take a 24 hour claritin every morning as a routine and like this coming Saturday here in NY the projected pollen count will be almost at max and I would like to be outside for most of the evening to get my work done, what options do I have? Take another claritin in the evening or just battle the symptoms?

My research on the net shows I think, that I am indeed allergic to tree pollens as I have suspected since my allergies are only in the early spring. Since there is no answer for when the allergy season enRAB due to this being an individual issue, I guess my question would be when will it end "for me"? I am thinking I should rely on the tree pollen count for this so I'll monitor the pollen count for the next weeks and when I see it become almost non-existant then I will stop using the meRAB and see what happens? Anything wrong with this plan?

If you took it in the AM and started having symptoms or the ones you were having were not alleviated, then you could take a second one 12 hours after the first. But do not take 2 at the same time. Just space them 12 hours apart if you need a second one.

I take zyrtec and that's how my doctor told me to do it if I needed a second one.

Just trying to be prepared for when I to be outdoors on high pollen days, thanks for the info!
