Home work outs advise?

If I do push ups every night or every other night, along with sit ups, will I be able to see any results anytime soon? If not what are some "at home" work out that can do that can maximize my results?
I eat what i think to be a healthy vegetarian diet "no meat", but metabolism is very high and i cant gain weight. any ideas?
